Ke Huy Quan has built his career on warmth and wild fun energy. From his childhood roles in The Goonies and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom to his Oscar-winning performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once, and most recently appearing in Loki Season 2, Quan has a reputation as one of Hollywood’s most endearing actors. But now, he’s ready to embrace the dark side.
During an interview with Empire, he explained: “I would love to play a bad guy. Like a Bond villain. Or the kind of thing Hugh Grant does in Heretic.”
He wants to go all in with villain role, saying: “I want to go out of my comfort zone and just play this diabolical, really bad guy. That would be a lot of fun.”
I think like the idea of Quan playing a sinister bad guy, and now that these thoughts are out in the open, maybe we’ll actually see it happen.
Quan’s career resurgence has allowed him to explore a range of characters, and he’s looking to keep that momentum going. While his upcoming action-comedy Love Hurts will highlight his impressive martial arts skills, he doesn’t want to be boxed into the action star label.
The actor said: “I don’t want to be perceived as an action star. I hope I’m perceived as an actor who does action well. So I’m going to take it one step at a time.
“The best part about being an actor is, you get to play a variety of different characters. I love [Loki’s] Ouroboros because he’s so different than [EEAAO’s] Waymond, and Waymond is so different than [Love Hurts’] Marvin Gable.”
So what’s next for Quan? If Hollywood is paying attention (and it should be), we could see him unleash a side of himself as a villainous character that audiences have never seen before.
