Bong Joon-ho’s Mickey 17 is an absolute wild, weird, and completely entertaining ride from start to finish. This is the kind of sci-fi film that thrives on unpredictability, throwing you into a world that’s both playful and unsettling.

From the moment it starts, it hooks you in and balances high-concept storytelling with a sharp sense of humor and adventure. I had a blast watching it, and it’s easily one of the most fun sci-fi films I’ve seen in a while.

At its core, the film follows Mickey Barnes (Robert Pattinson), an expendable worker whose job is, quite literally, to die and come back. He’s part of a human colonization mission on the frozen planet Niflheim, where any task too dangerous for the rest of the crew falls on him.

Every time he dies, a fresh clone takes his place, memories mostly intact, but when he returns from a mission people thought he died on, he finds a new version of himself already in place, and things get messy fast.

The story unfolds with a mix of existential dread and pure sci-fi fun, and Bong Joon-ho’s script keeps it moving at a perfect pace. It’s never bogged down by exposition, instead letting the absurdity of the situation play out in ways that are thought-provoking and entertaining.

Visually, Mickey 17 is a awesome. Bong Joon-ho and his creativbe team brought to life a bonkers sci-fi story that’s visually compelling and also fully immersive.

Pattinson, as expected, delivers an wonderful and playful performance. He brings the right mix of charm, desperation, and exhaustion to Mickey, making him someone you root for even when he’s making questionable choices. Watching him navigate his increasingly ridiculous predicament is the best part of the movie.

The supporting cast is solid as well, though Mark Ruffalo’s take on Commander Kenneth Marshall didn’t quite work for me. He leans way too hard into the over-the-top, eccentric leader trope, pushing the character past the point of being fun and into full-blown cartoon territory. Some might enjoy that, but for me, it was the one thing that pulled me out of the film’s otherwise well-balanced tone.

That small gripe aside, Mickey 17 is a movie that has to be seen on the big screen. It’s clever, visually rich, and packed with the kind of sci-fi weirdness that makes for an incredibly entertaining experience.

Bong Joon-ho has crafted something that feels fresh and exciting, proving once again that he’s one of the most inventive filmmakers working today.
