Sydney Sweeney is adding another interesting project to her growing slate of film and television ventures. The Euphoria and Anyone But You star will headline and produce I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl for Warner Bros.
The film is based on a gripping short story by Joe Cote which first gained traction on Reddit. The story follows a drifter who assumes the identity of a missing girl to exploit her grieving family, only to discover she’s made a grave miscalculation.
The adaptation is being developed by Oscar-winning screenwriter Eric Roth, known for his work on Dune and Forrest Gump.
Vertigo’s Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, and Trevor Engelson, along with Aaron Folbe at Underground, are also on board as producers.
Sweeney played a key role in producing the hit romantic comedy Anyone But You, which pulled in a $220.3 million global box office and proved a major success for Sony. She also championed and executive-produced the horror thriller Immaculate, which made its debut at SXSW before being picked up by NEON.
Looking ahead, Sweeney is attached to several high-profile projects. She is set to star in and executive produce The Housemaid, a psychological thriller directed by Paul Feig and based on the novel by Freida McFadden. The film, co-starring Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar, is slated for a Christmas Day release.
She’s also taking on the role of Kim Novak in Scandalous!, a film exploring the hidden romance between Novak and Sammy Davis Jr. in 1957. The project, backed by Miramax, will be the directorial debut of Colman Domingo.
Additionally, Sweeney is developing and starring in a Christy Martin biopic, bringing to life the story of the legendary female boxer.
And before all of these hit the screen, she’ll be seen in Apple’s Echo Valley, where she shares the screen with Julianne Moore, Kyle MacLachlan, and Domhnall Gleeson.
From romantic comedies to psychological thrillers and real-life biopics, Sweeney continues to carve out an impressive career for herself.
