Here’s a trailer for a great-looking proof of concept animated horror short film titled Tinkerhell, which is a dark and sinister take on Tinkerbell.

In the film, a young girl faces the consequences, after she incites the wrath of a very small and very deadly entity.

The film written and directed by Noah Sterling, we have an interview with the filmmaker that you can read below.

The trailer is shared in collaboration with the FilmQuest Film Festival, where we are looking to expose some of the radical indie genre films and shorts that filmmakers are creating.

What was the inspiration for your film? How did you come up with the idea?

Tinkerhell is a project that started as a conceptual challenge: What if we took the trope of creating a horror version of a public domain character, that has become common in terrible b-movies, and actually attempted to make it frightening.

Tell us about yourself. What is your background? How long have you been a filmmaker?

Noah Sterling is a Persian-American mixed-media director who works in animation, live-action and VFX. Noah’s work is heavily influenced by comic-book and anime styles, and his work can be identified by arresting visuals, and a rapid-paced comedic wit.

Noah is widely known for his work for Marvel Entertainment, where he produced Marvel’s highest-performing digital series and content. Noah has gone on to collaborate with the music industry’s biggest stars such as: Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat and Justin Bieber. He has also helped major brands such as Disney, MTV and Apple tell their stories with animated shorts and promos.

What was your favorite part of the filmmaking process for this project?

All of the unique challenges that came with creating a scary, terrifying atmosphere through the medium of animation.

What are you most proud of with this film?

The animated “cinematography.”

What was your most challenging moment or experience you had while making your film?

Fixing a lot of animation errors from our decentralized remote team.

If it did, how did your film change or differ from its original concept during pre-production, production, and/or post-production? How has this changed how you’ll approach future projects as a result?

Originally the project was conceptualized as more goofy and tongue-and-cheek, vs the straight horror route we ended up going down.

Who were some of your collaborators and actors on the film? How did you start working with each other?

Kimiko Glenn agreed to be the voice of Tinkerbell after seeing our animatic concept. It was very exciting to get an actress of her experience and caliber involved.

Where can we find more of your work and where can interested parties contact you?
