Looks like League of Legends is finally leveling up to live-action. Riot Games is reportedly moving forward with a live-action series based on its wildly popular game universe, and Vietnam, specifically the scenic island region of Cát Bà, is being eyed as a key filming location for the project.

The info surfaced from an official post by Vietnam’s government Facebook page, Thông tin Chính phủ, on March 12. According to the AI translated post, Riot is planning to shoot a 9-episode TV series in Cát Bà sometime in late 2025.

League of Legends Vietnam, TeamFight Tactics Esports VN, and VALORANT’s official pages all jumped in the comments with celebratory emojis and shoutouts to the news.

Digging into the comments on that same post reveals that on March 10, Vietnam’s Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyễn Văn Hùng met with a Riot delegation, where he welcomed the project and acknowledged the visiting team as a “Hollywood film delegation.”

The group included Rose Lam, referred to in the reports as “Global Production Director.” Lam previously produced The Last of Us TV series, which went on to win Best Adaptation at the 2024 Game Awards.

Lam noted that Riot had explored several Asian countries for potential locations such as Japan, Korea, and Thailand among them, but Vietnam stood out. Specifically, she said Cát Bà was deemed a “highly feasible” and suitable filming location that best met the project’s creative and logistical needs.

Also present at the meeting was Nicholas Simon, CEO of Indochina Productions, who emphasized the project’s potential cultural impact:

“A great opportunity to promote Vietnam. Vietnam is one of the priority countries for international film productions due to its stable audience and growing tourism industry.”

Minister Nguyễn Văn Hùng expressed full support, saying: “Vietnam is ready to cooperate and facilitate the research team and filming.”

However, he was equally clear about maintaining environmental and legal standards: “Any activity in Vietnam must comply with Vietnamese law, ensuring co-development, harmonised benefits, and shared risks. Vietnam will not trade the environment for economic benefits.”

He also outlined plans to assist the production through potential visa exemptions and collaboration with local authorities.

“Through Hollywood, the world’s film centre, Vietnam hopes to further promote Vietnamese cinema and tourism. We aim to develop our cultural industries to significantly contribute to the nation’s growth.”

While Riot hasn’t officially confirmed the project or a release timeline, internal restructuring signals that their entertainment push is very real. The company now has two separate arms, an animation studio led by Arcane co-creator Christian Linke and a live-action division led by Brian Wright.

Vietnamese outlets have referred to these combined efforts as “Riot Studios,” though that’s not an official Riot label.

A live-action League of Legends series could be really cool and interesting. It will be interesting to see what comes of this, but I’m more excited about the future of the animation side of the franchise after Arcane.
