Jack Reynor is stepping into Lee Cronin’s horror thriller The Mummy, but he won’t be playing the monster.
The project is backed by Atomic Monster, Blumhouse, and New Line Cinema, and it’s gearing up to shoot in Ireland and Spain. Cronin is both writing and directing, with his Doppelgängers banner also on board as a producer.
This marks the first collaboration between Atomic Monster and Blumhouse since the two genre giants merged. The film is set to hit theaters on April 17, 2026, via Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group.
Still keeping its plot under wraps (pun intended), The Mummy promises a fresh take under Cronin’s vision. Reynor has carved out a great acting career balancing prestige drama with genre fare.
Most recently, he starred in Netflix’s hit limited series The Perfect Couple. Horror fans will remember him from Ari Aster’s Midsommar, while blockbuster audiences know him as the lead in Michael Bay’s Transformers: Age of Extinction.
His eclectic filmography also includes Cherry, Detroit, Free Fire, Flora and Son, and Sing Street, the latter two with director John Carney. Reynor earned critical acclaim for What Richard Did, winning Best Actor at the ITFA Awards, and picked up a Special Jury Award at Sundance for his performance in Glassland.
On the TV side, he’s appeared in Strange Angel and On the Basis of Sex, and he’s set to return in Season 2 of Prime Video’s Citadel. Behind the camera, he wrote and directed the short film Bainne, starring Will Poulter, which took home the Best First Short Drama Award at the Galway Film Festival.
As for Cronin, he’s no stranger to redefining horror IP. His 2023 hit Evil Dead Rise was initially headed for streaming before Warner Bros. changed course after a terrifying trailer debuted. That move paid off as the film grossed $147M globally.
The producing team behind The Mummy includes James Wan, Jason Blum, and John Keville, with Michael Clear and Judson Scott executive producing. Alayna Glasthal is overseeing the project for Atomic Monster.
