Thanks to some recently surfaced set photos, we’re finally getting a clearer peek at what Milly Alcock looks like as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is in production in London.
The shots were snapped from a drone hovering above the set, and while they aren’t exactly high-res character portraits, they do give us our best glimpse yet at Alcock’s Supergirl costume. If you’re a fan of Tom King’s comic run of the same name, this suit will look familiar.
From what we can see, the design stays faithful to the source material with the red cape and skirt, along with that blue torso suit and golden belt. The iconic “S” shield is front and center on her chest and stamped on the back of the cape, just like in the comics.
It’s a bright, optimistic take on the classic Kryptonian look. We also have some photos of Supergirl standing on top of what appears to be an armored vehicle,
Security’s clearly been ramped up on set, and unless the studio decides to drop a glossy promo still soon, these aerial teases might be all we get for now. DC has been known to pull the trigger on first-look reveals when the buzz reaches a boil, so don’t be surprised if something official drops soon.
Ana Nogueira is writing the screenplay for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and Craig Gillespie (Cruella and I, Tonya) is directing.
It was previously explained that the movie is “based on Tom King’s wonderful comic book series that came out just last year… This is a very different type of Super Girl.”
in this film “we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time is an infant versus super girl who was raised on a rock chip off of Krypton and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to earth when she was a young girl and is much more hardcore. She’s not exactly the Supergirl we are used to seeing.”
In that story from King’s comic: “Kara Zor-El has seen some epic adventures over the years, but she now finds her life without meaning or purpose. Here she is, a young woman who saw her planet destroyed and was sent to Earth to protect a baby cousin who ended up not needing her. What was it all for?”
Wherever she goes, “people only see her through the lens of Superman’s fame. Just when Supergirl thinks she’s had enough, everything changes. An alien girl seeks her out for a vicious mission. Her world has been destroyed, and the bad guys responsible are still out there.”
She wants revenge, “and if Supergirl doesn’t help her, she’ll do it herself, whatever the cost. Now a Kryptonian, a dog, and an angry, heartbroken child head out into space on a journey that will shake them to their very core.”
