Josh Trank is actually set to direct a new movie. This is the guy who helmed the last Fantastic Four movie and caused a lot of behind the scenes drama during the production, which hurt his career.
The new film is titled Send A Scare, a new horror-thriller that puts a twisted spin on the prank economy. The film has landed Upload star Robbie Amell and Suits: LA’s Victoria Justice in lead roles.
Send A Scare centers on “an interactive horror startup that gives thrill-seekers a way to send scares to friends and family… but when potential investors host a demonstration, the experience gets hijacked by a real masked killer with a deadly agenda.’
The film was written by Andrew Ryan and Trank, based on a story by Ryan. Joining Amell and Justice in the cast are Karan Soni (Deadpool), Noel Fisher (Shameless), Mackinlee Waddell (1883), and Adain Bradley (Tarot).
Trank described the film as a mash-up of modern tech horror and something more unhinged: “This movie is like if Black Mirror and Scream had a baby that was raised by John Carpenter.”
Justice teased a concept that feels grounded but ready to spiral: “Send A Scare is a cautionary tale, but also a really fun ride. The script grabbed me instantly. It felt like it was saying something about the way we chase adrenaline and entertainment, but it’s also full of these great, terrifying moments.”
Robbie Amell added: “What I love about Send A Scare is that it doesn’t pull punches. It’s self-aware without being snarky. It’s scary, but there’s a smartness to the way it builds tension. And working with Josh and Victoria on this has been awesome. There’s a real passion behind this one.”
I’m curious about Send A Scare because if it’s good, it could be the next sleeper hit in horror-thriller territory. We’ll see if Trank can pull it off.
