As Andor gears up for its highly anticipated second and final season, Diego Luna is officially saying goodbye to Cassian Andor, a role in Star Wars that has defined nearly a decade of his life.

On the red carpet at the El Capitan Theatre for the Andor Season 2 premiere, Luna reflected on wrapping his Star Wars journey, telling Deadline:

“I said goodbye to this character when we wrapped. I had a beautiful opportunity to talk to the crew, to talk to the cast. [Creator] Tony Gilroy gave these beautiful words, we had a drink, we hugged, we cried. I’m going to miss this family.”

Season 2 picks up where the first left off, with Cassian aboard a freighter alongside Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgård), as the series edges closer to the tragic but heroic events of Rogue One. While the ending is already written (yes, Cassian dies), the final episodes promise to complete his evolution into a rebel leader and hero.

For Luna, letting go hasn’t been easy, and he said:

“It’s the dynamic, it’s my every day life — what I have to say goodbye to. It’s tough, I went through, really, a lovely and challenging journey with these people and it transformed me somehow.”

That transformation, both personal and professional, isn’t lost on him. Looking back at the decade-long experience, Luna shared:

“It’s sad, it’s painful, but also I know how lucky I am that I had this opportunity. Many go through the journey of acting without living something like this, you know? I didn’t know it was going to happen to me, it’s been 10 years of my life, so I’m proud and honored to be part of this family.”

It’s not the first time he’s voiced that sentiment. At the Golden Globes earlier this year, Luna said: “I can tell you, I’m sad … because it’s the last season! It’s the end.”

As fans prepare to say goodbye to Cassian, too, at least we know that Luna poured everything he had into the role.

Season One of the series followed “Cassian’s reluctant journey from cynical nobody to revolutionary volunteer. Andor Season Two will see him transform from soldier to leader to hero on the way to his epic destiny. From the very first scene, Cassian’s story has activated an ever-widening ensemble of allies and enemies.

Season Two will see “these relationships intensify as the horizon of galactic war draws near. Everyone will be tested and, as the stakes rise, the betrayals, sacrifices, and conflicting agendas will become profound. Who will live to see their dream realized? Who will realize what the dream cost?”

Andor Season 2 will premiere on Disney+ on April 22, 2025. Here’s how the episodes will be released April 22: Episodes 1–3, April 29: Episodes 4–6, May 6: Episodes 7–9, and May 13: Episodes 10–12.
