The Doom Slayer is back, and this time he’s rocking medieval armor, wielding a giant crossbow that doubles as a BFG, and battling a Lovecraftian nightmare.
Doom: The Dark Ages just dropped a new trailer, and it’s a hell-soaked fever dream of cinematic chaos and heavy metal mayhem.
id Software premiered the trailer during WrestleMania 41, complete with WWE star Drew McIntyre cosplaying as the Doomguy himself. The trailer trades the usual gameplay-forward approach for something a bit more dramatic, diving into the story behind this blood-soaked prequel.
Set long before the events of DOOM (2016), The Dark Ages rewinds the timeline to explore the Slayer’s early days as a member of the Sentinels, a brutal warrior caste that apparently decided to leash the Doomguy and only let him loose when all other hope was lost.
The story paints the Slayer less like a hero and more like a weapon of mass destruction kept just barely under control. And let’s just say… he doesn’t look thrilled about it.
The voiceover drops this ominous line: “He is not one of us… He is a thing that we found. He is rage. He is pain. And when the time comes, we will set him loose.”
It sounds like Doom: The Dark Ages is going full mythic with its storytelling, positioning the Slayer as a chained god of war, held back only until the very gates of hell burst wide open.
The trailer ends by teasing a towering nightmare with biomechanical elements, something that looks like the unholy spawn of the Icon of Sin and Cthulhu. It’s massive, grotesque, and otherworldly.
DOOM: The Dark Ages is scheduled to launch May 15, 2025. It’s metal, it’s monstrous, and it might just be the most ambitious Doom game yet.
