I’ve been all-in on the Mission: Impossible franchise since the beginning, and with MIssion: Impossible -The Final Reckoning possibly being the final chapter in Ethan Hunt’s story, my expectations were sky high.

These films have always raised the bar for what action movies can be, and this one promised to go even further. I walked in hoping for something epic, something that could honor everything that came before it, and what I got was an absolute powerhouse of a film that blew me away on every level.

From the first frame, The Final Reckoning sets an unrelenting pace. The movie doesn’t slowly ease you into its world, it grabs you and doesn’t let go. The stakes are enormous right out of the gate, with Hunt and the IMF team chasing down the final pieces of a plan to eliminate The Entity once and for all.

There’s a sense of finality hanging over every scene. You feel it in the urgency of the story as it plays out, the desperation in the characters, and the way the film moves like a fuse burning toward something explosive.

The action is nothing short of mind-meltingly awesome. This might be the most intense and physically draining movie I’ve ever sat through. I mean that as a compliment. There were moments where I actually forgot to breathe, especially during one submarine sequence where Ethan has to navigate a collapsed wreck deep in the ocean.

The scene is dark, cold, and disorienting, and the way Christopher McQuarrie and Tom Cruise shot it makes you feel every inch of it. It’s a masterclass in tension, and the stakes feel terrifyingly real.

Then there’s the aerial sequence… good grief. Ethan ends up in a high-stakes bi-plane chase, and what unfolds in the sky is absolutely bananas. We’re talking mid-air stunts, a brutal fight on the wing, and gravity-defying intensity that would make any other action movie blush.

The fact that Cruise continues to do this kind of thing himself adds a whole other layer of disbelief. These two scenes may be some of the best action sequences that I’ve ever seen.

But what really caught me off guard was how emotional the movie is. This isn’t just an action thrill ride, it’s also character-driven and and introspective movie. You can feel the weight of everything Ethan has been through, and the sacrifices he’s made to protect the world.

There are quiet moments tucked between the chaos that reflect on legacy, loyalty, and what it means to carry the burden of always being the one who runs toward danger.

Another major highlight is how The Final Reckoning manages to pull the entire franchise into focus. It doesn’t feel like a standalone sequel or just another mission. It feels like the conclusion to a story that’s been building for decades.

McQuarrie and Cruise cleverly weave in moments, callbacks, and themes from previous films, tying together plot threads that have stretched across the entire series. Somehow, it all clicks. And when it does, it gives you that rare, satisfying feeling of everything coming full circle.

What McQuarrie has done with this franchise is nothing short of remarkable. He and Cruise have taken what started as a sleek spy series and transformed it into an emotionally resonant, high-wire epic that rivals the best blockbuster storytelling out there.

This film doesn’t just throw action at you, it earns every single beat of it. It’s structured with care, layered with meaning, and executed with precision. It’s big, yes, but it never loses its humanity.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is everything I want from a movie: it’s thrilling, emotional, character-driven, and utterly insane in the best way. It reminded me why I love going to the movies, and why this series has stood the test of time.

If this really is the end, it’s one hell of a sendoff. But I’ll be honest, I’m not ready to say goodbye. Ethan Hunt may have given everything, but I selfishly hope we get just one more mission. Either way, you have to experience this on the biggest screen you can find.
