Love Island USA star Isabelle Walker, better known as Belle-A, says the dash in her name is more than just a nickname.
The 22-year-old was the first person to leave the villa during season 7 of Love Island USA. Following her departure from the reality show, she spoke to PEOPLE about a question that’s been on the minds of fans: her name.

According to Belle-A, the dash in her name is a callback to members of her family. She told the publication, “It goes back in my family history. My nana, her name was Ann Annie, so she named my mom Vera-Ann.”
She shared that her mom chose to carry on the family tradition and chose the name Isabelle-Ann for the Love Island USA star. She told the publication, “It’s on my birth certificate. It really is legit.”
When she grew up and decided to go by a nickname instead of her full name, the reality star wanted to keep the family tradition of having a dash in her name and chose to go by Belle-A.
