ABC is officially moving forward with a new spinoff series for The Rookie!
It was first reported in December 2024 that the spinoff series, titled The Rookie: North, was in development at the network.
On Monday (November 24), it was announced that ABC has given the project a pilot order and that Jay Ellis has been cast in the lead role.
Keep reading to find out more…Here’s the logline per Variety: “Alex Holland (Ellis) believed his mid-life wasn’t worthy of a crisis. But after a violent home invasion ignites a dormant purpose, Alex battles a lifetime of failed commitments by joining the Pierce County Police Department as its oldest rookie. Policing from the urban coast to the rural forest where backup isn’t just 5-minutes away, Alex must prove to his skeptical training officer, his fellow rookies, and himself, that he’s finally found something worthy of the fight.”
The Rookie creator Alexi Hawley will write, direct, and executive produce the pilot with Nathan Fillion also serving as an executive producer. Along with starring in the series, Jay will also be a producer.
If The Rookie: North gets picked up to series, it will be the second spinoff series in The Rookie franchise. The Rookie: Feds, starring Niecy Nash-Betts aired in from 2022 to 2023, but was canceled after one season.
