The Game Awards 2024 was packed with some cool reveals, and one of them was the cinematic trailer for the epic fantasy game Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, a new story-driven action-adventure RPG set in the world of Westeros.
Scheduled for release in 2025, this marks the first major Game of Thrones game in years, and it’s aiming to deliver an immersive experience on mobile platforms.
The game was developed by Netmarble, and Kingsroad promises to take players on a journey through iconic locations from the Game of Thrones series.
“The game will feature breathtaking recreations of the Seven Kingdoms, from the opulence of King’s Landing to the icy expanses of Castle Black,” the developer teased in a recent blog post.
The game’s storyline expands on the HBO series, revisiting events around Game of Thrones Seasons 4 and 5. Fans can expect to encounter familiar faces like Jon Snow and Cersei Lannister, the latter sporting her iconic long hair from the era.
The combat system is described as “dynamic, skill-driven, and manual,” offering a hands-on experience rather than automated mechanics.
While the trailer showcased during the awards was purely cinematic, Netmarble’s social media reveals snippets of gameplay, highlighting visceral combat with axe swings and precise dodge rolls.
Despite its mobile-only release on Apple and Android devices, Kingsroad positions itself as a “blockbuster” experience, aiming to raise the bar for mobile RPGs. It joins a growing list of games targeting a 2025 launch, setting up what’s shaping to be a packed year for gamers.
The timing of Kingsroad’s release has sparked conversations and it’s coming 11 years after the season it’s set in and six years after the show concluded.
