The road to Spider-Man 4 has been overloaded with rumors and another one has hit claiming that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is not happy with the current script, prompting significant rewrites that could delay production.
The rumor originates from MTTSH, which says the script is undergoing a substantial overhaul, or potentially being scrapped altogether. While Tom Holland reportedly likes the story, Feige does not, leading to major changes.
The source explains: “They are now rewriting it and changing everything. The script isn’t ready yet and won’t be for a while.”
With a release date set for July 24, 2026, and filming slated to begin mid-2025, there’s still time to meet the schedule. However, if this this shake-up is legit, it could complicate matters, especially since Holland is committed to Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey next year, potentially creating scheduling conflicts.
This wouldn’t be the first clash over Spider-Man 4. Reports have suggested a tug-of-war between Feige and Sony Chairman Tom Rothman. Feige is said to favor scaling back the Multiverse elements for a more grounded story, while Rothman wants to capitalize on the success of No Way Home by bringing back Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield for another blockbuster-level event.
More recent rumors suggested a compromise: a mostly grounded plot with some Multiversal elements. However, the film was still being described as an “Avengers-level event” until recently.
In a recent interview, Holland addressed the pressure to follow up the massive success of No Way Home:
“We have the best in the business working toward whatever the story might be. But until we’ve cracked it, we have a legacy to protect. The third movie was so special in so many ways that we need to make sure we do the right thing.”
If this rumor is true, then it seems they haven’t cracked it yet. While this remains a rumor for now, I’m sure that more clarity is expected to come in the new year.
