Director George Miller, the mastermind behind the Mad Max franchise might team up with Marvel Studios for a film project. Word has it that Marvel has their sights set on him to direct either World War Hulk or Thor 5.
Fans have been wanting to see Marvel make a World War Hulk and it would be really cool if Miller was the guy to step in to direct it.
According to a recent Production Weekly listing, the project could begin filming as early as this year. Then World of Reel claims to have confirmed that the film is in active development, and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has already reached out to potential directors… including George Miller.
While I would love to see Miller take on World War Hulk, it’s also reported that the director may be leaning toward Thor 5 instead.
His recent work with Chris Hemsworth on Furiosa sparked a connection between the two, with Hemsworth even arranging a meeting between Miller and Feige. This potential collaboration does make sense and Miller has praised Hemsworth in the past, saying:
“I would work with Chris on anything. I really would. He’s a wonderful actor. He’s got the full range of all the skills.”
He added: “I mean, you’ve got to be athletic, physically. But, you also gotta be athletic emotionally and intellectually to take on these very, ultimately fairly complex, any role really.”
I get why Miller would want to work with Hemsworth again on Thor 5, but I’d be much more excited about him taking on World War Hulk. Thor 5 just doesn’t interest me.
The thought of Miller tackling the chaotic, epic scale of World War Hulk is just exciting! Hulk has been sidelined since 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, with the character mostly appearing in ensemble films or supporting roles.
A solo outing as grand as big as World War Hulk, with Miller at the helm, could be exactly what the character needs to explode onto the big screen in a huge way.
Miller’s previous brush with superhero cinema includes Justice League: Mortal, which is a project that was shelved before production.
MIller also previously defended superhero film saying: “Cinema is cinema and it’s a very broad church… The test, ultimately, is what it means to the audience.”
He even called out Martin Scorsese’s critique of the genre, labeling it “hubris” to decide what does or doesn’t qualify as cinema. He added: “It’s one big mosaic and each bit of work fits into it.”
The groundwork seems to be in place for a World War Hulk movie. The Leader and Red Hulk’s roles in Captain America: Brave New World are likely leading to something bigger, and a World War Hulk event could be the natural next step.
For now, we’ll have to wait and see where Miller ends up landing. If he really is in the running to direct these films, which one would you like to see him take on?
