Sony Pictures has released a full trailer for its film adaptation of the hit video game Until Dawn, and it looks like this is going to be a creepy fun horror flick!
The movie comes from Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation director David F. Sandberg, and it’s great to see him jump into the horror genre again after his time making the Shazam! movies. You can tell he had a fun time playing in the Until Dawn sandbox.
The movie has the same tone and vibe of the game, but it expands on the universe with a new story filled with new characters. Also, in the film after a character is killed, they come back to try to survive all over again and they have to continue to survive until dawn.
It was previously explained that every time a character comes back to life, it’s like they enter a whole new horror genre.
In the story, “One year after her sister Melanie mysteriously disappeared, Clover and her friends head into the remote valley where she vanished in search of answers.
“Exploring an abandoned visitor center, they find themselves stalked by a masked killer and horrifically murdered one by one…only to wake up and find themselves back at the beginning of the same evening.
“Trapped in the valley, they’re forced to relive the nightmare again and again – only each time the killer threat is different, each more terrifying than the last.
“Hope dwindling, the group soon realizes they have a limited number of deaths left, and the only way to escape is to survive until dawn.”
Sandberg is excited to return to his horror roots, and he previously said: “I’ve been longing to do horror again. This film explores the many great subgenres of horror to create the most terrifying experience possible.
“Capturing the essence of the game but with new characters, it serves as a great stand-alone introduction to the world for the newcomer as well as offers something new that the fans of the game will enjoy.”
The cast of the film includes Ella Rubin (The Idea of You), Michael Cimino (Never Have I Ever), Ji-young Yoo (Expats), Odessa A’zion (Hellraiser), Peter Stormare, Maia Mitchell and Belmont Cameli.
The movie was written by Blair Butler (The Invitation) with contributions from Gary Dauberman (Salem’s Lot).
Described as “an R-rated love letter to the horror genre,” the film promises to deliver a chilling experience for both newcomers and fans of the game.
