On Jan. 19, the Black Conservative Federation, which calls itself “the premier hub for Black conservatives,” will host its so-called Legacy of Freedom Ball to celebrate Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration.
That’s right, folks, on the day before Martin Luther King Jr. Day, African American MAGA supporters will get together and clink glasses while toasting the second presidency of the orangey-white nationalist who, at the end of his last presidency, exclusively targetted predominately Black and Latino voting precincts in his baseless and factless election fraud propaganda campaign. Prominent Black conservatives will take the stage and sing the praises of the great replacement theorist who promised to fight racism against white people while denying the very existence of systemic racism against Black people. They will tap-dance the night away while they celebrate the reelection of the man who spearheaded the propaganda-reliant attack on critical race theory, issued an executive order banning diversity training in the workplace, and promised to end all DEI programs across America. Black people who bring raisin-clad casserole dishes to the cookout will express their undying devotion to the president who advocated for the military to shoot Black Lives Matter protesters, consistently lied about the crime rates in Black neighborhoods, and called for the execution of the Central Park Five, whose exoneration and innocence he still refuses to acknowledge.
It’s going to be a palooza of Stepin Fetchery. So, who’s on the guest list?
The event’s guests and “honorary event chairs” include Trump loyalists like Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.), who hasn’t been able to land a position in Trump’s cabinet despite all the time and energy he spent touring Black barbershops and other Black spaces in feeble attempts to convince Black people that Trump is not racist just because he keeps saying racist sh*t and serving as the Black voice to help his MAGA massa lie about the aforementioned fictitious surge in violent crime in Black neighborhoods. The event will also include Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-Texas), ex-sports analyst Sage Steele — whose name Trump couldn’t even remember when she hosted a campaign event for him — Florida’s former Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll, Dr. Alveda King, the embarrassing evangelist niece of MLK, former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown, and rappers Waka Flocka and Fivio Foreign, who both previously revealed publicly that the only thing more embarrassing than their rap skills are their political leanings. (I’m just kidding — I don’t know who Fivio Foreign is.)
Earlier this year, the Black Conservative Federation hosted a gala headlined by Trump, and while the audience was reportedly largely white, the Black people who were there had fun responding to Trump with big, wide-eyed, toothy smiles as the president-elect took the stage and dropped gems like this:
“When I did the mug shot in Atlanta, that mug shot is No. 1. You know who embraced it more than anyone else? The Black population.”
And this:
“The lights are so bright in my eyes I can’t see too many people out there. But I can only see the Black ones. I can’t see any white ones. That’s how far I’ve come.”
Apparently, the Black conservative idea of a “legacy of freedom” includes letting a pathologically lying white supremacist mock Black people right to their faces.
Sad.
