It looks like Paramount Pictures is going to jump back into the Power Rangers franchise and try to reboot it with a new movie.
There was an attempt to jumpstart the Power Rangers film franchise in 2017, but that vision of the franchise didn’t take. Not long after that, Hasbro teamed up with Netflix and Paramount to build a Power Rangers cinematic universe that would involve both TV and film, but nothing came from that.
Well, now according to Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman a new movie is in early development at Paramount. Another report from @Jinsakuu says that it is a complete reboot and not tied to the previous Netflix project at all.
It was also explained as Hasbro and Paramount have reportedly been in negotiations for a few months and have evidently made some substantial progress in those discussions.
If things pan out Paramount and Skydance will retain the media rights for Power Rangers and are moving fast on developing the new film.
It was also reported that a buyout of the property was discussed and both companies remain open to the option, but it will come down to the right price to make that happen.
As of right now, though, they are working together on the film, and the plan is to release it in theaters in late 2026.
There are no story details to share, but for anyone who is a Power Rangers fan you know what to expect. Hopefully, this time around the studios bring in a strong creative team that knows what to do with the franchise.
A Power Rangers film franchise could be huge, but the studio really needs to capture the tone and the spirit of the classic action-adventure franchise and tell a story that audiences will connect with fans and audiences.
