The web of intrigue around Spider-Man 4 continues to grow with new rumors that have surfaced, and it looks like Peter Parker’s next adventure could be very exiting and ambitious.
According to the latest reports from Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider, the film may not only bring back Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man but also see the inclusion of some heavy hitters like Daredevil, the Punisher, and even Mephisto.
Marvel fans been hoping to see Daredevil and Spider-Man share the screen in their costumed glory, and fight alongside each other, and maybe that might finally happen.
Sneider suggests that Charlie Cox is expected to reprise his role as Matt Murdock, who briefly met Peter Parker in No Way Home. While we’ve seen Murdock offer Peter legal advice, fans are eager for the full Daredevil experience alongside Spider-Man, battling crime in New York.
Cox’s inclusion in Spider-Man 4 has been rumored for some time, and this report is sure to up the excitement for fans.
Sneider’s report also hints at the return of Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, aka the Punisher. Bernthal recently suited up for Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again, and his badass and gritty take on the character could add a compelling dynamic to the movie.
The most surprising rumor is the mention of Mephisto, with actor Sacha Baron Cohen reportedly in the mix to play the demonic villain. While one source disputes Cohen’s availability due to another project, the idea of Mephisto’s involvement raises eyebrows.
His involvement would steer Spider-Man into supernatural territory, which would be a surprising turn given that the film is rumored to focus on a more grounded narrative.
Other rumors suggest that Symbiotes and even Knull, the god of the Symbiotes, might be tied into the story. While these details remain rumors, it’s clear that Spider-Man 4 is shaping up to be a mix of street-level action and epic stakes.
It’s also reported that Zendaya’s MJ, who is a core part of the trilogy’s emotional weight, might have a smaller role this time. Sneider notes her packed schedule as a likely reason, but this shift could also reflect a more Peter-centric story.
Insiders suggest that Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige and Sony’s Tom Rothman have debated the film’s direction. Feige is reportedly pushing for a more intimate, grounded tale, while Rothman wants to capitalize on the No Way Home frenzy by bringing back Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield for more Multiverse action.
For now, the film is rumored to blend elements of both approaches, with Spider-Man 4 described as an “Avengers-level event” while keeping some Multiversal chaos in check.
The script is being written by No Way Home writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, with Destin Daniel Cretton set to direct. Spider-Man 4 is slated for a July 24, 2026 release, and Tom Holland has already expressed his commitment to ensuring the sequel lives up to the franchise’s legacy.
When previously talking about the film, producer Amy Pascal said: “We’re starting shooting the next Spider-Man movie with Destin Daniel Cretton. He’s a wonderful director. I love No Mercy, I love Short Term 12, I love Shang-Chi. I think he did a wonderful job.”
When it was brought up in the interview that Spider-Man: No Way Home felt like the perfect send-off for Spider-Man, Pascal responded: “Well, we have to deal with the fact that he decided he was going to give up being Peter Parker.”
“And he was going to focus on being Spider-Man because being Peter Parker was too hard.” She teased: “That’s what the movie is about.”
