Crunchyroll has released a new trailer for Takashi Miike’s upcoming anime series Nyaight of the Living Cat, which looks like a wildly fun show! Remember, this comes from the filmmaker behind Killer, Audition, and 13 Assassins, so you know you’re in for a crazy ride.
The synopsis reads: “Run! The Adorable Cats Are Here! In 20XX, the world is dominated by cats. A virus which turns anyone who touches a cat into a cat has spread into a worldwide nyandemic.
“Cats rub against people, turning them into cats. Can humanity fight their urge to pet cats to survive in this cat-ridden world?”
“Please spread awareness, but help reduce panic and hiss-teria by staying cautious and vigilant. Don’t let their cute faces and fluffy coats fool you.
“If you see a cat lying on its back, do not touch its belly. It’s a trap! If you see a cat making fresh biscuits, do not stop in awe. Before you know it, you may be swarmed by a clowder with no escape.
“If a cat makes contact with you, it’s already too late. You will mutate into a cat. No school. No work. Only meow meow… Authorities will only be able to hold off this cuteness for so long before cat-astrophe strikes. Resist the temptation. The days of burying your face into their fur are gone.”
The series is set to debut in July 2025.
