Matthew Lillard (Scream, Scooby-Doo, SLC Punk) is stepping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as he has officially joined the cast of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.
With production of Season 2 kicking off next week, this news comes just ahead of the highly anticipated premiere of Season 1 on March 4, when the first two episodes will drop on Disney+.
As expected, Marvel is keeping Lillard’s character details tightly under wraps. But his addition to the cast is an exciting addition to the series, which continues the saga of Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), the blind lawyer-turned-vigilante.
In Born Again, Murdock is still navigating his complex life as both an attorney and the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen. Meanwhile, Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) is shifting gears from crime boss to political power player, setting up an inevitable showdown between the two.
Lillard joins a star-studded ensemble that includes returning favorites Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson as Karen Page and Foggy Nelson, as well as Jon Bernthal reprising his role as Frank Castle, aka the Punisher.
The Season 1 cast also features Margarita Levieva, Ayelet Zurer, Zabryna Guevara, Nikki M. James, Genneya Walton, Arty Froushan, Clark Johnson, Michael Gandolfini, Wilson Bethel, and Tony Dalton.
The Punisher showrunner Dario Scardapane leads the series, with executive producers Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Sana Amanat, and Moon Knight duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead.
Lillard is on a career is in a good place right now stacking up major projects in both film and television. He’s set to return to Scream in the upcoming Scream 7, will appear in Season 2 of Amazon’s Cross, and is reprising his role in the sequel to Five Nights at Freddy’s. He’s also part of the ensemble for The Life of Chuck, Mike Flanagan’s adaptation of the Stephen King story.
With his knack for playing both eccentric and menacing characters, Lillard’s involvement in Daredevil: Born Again is exciting!
