Marvel Studios just pulled off its biggest livestream event ever with the announcement of its cast for Avengers: Doomsday. This was a five-hour-plus spectacle that drew in a massive 275 million digital views.
That’s five times the social engagement of last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine Super Bowl trailer, which still holds the record as the most-viewed trailer of all time.
The event wasn’t exactly the most thrilling watch, but the numbers don’t lie. Hour by hour, the audience only grew, turning it into the most-watched cross-platform livestream Marvel has ever done.
The hashtag #AvengersDoomsday dominated Twitter/X’s #1 trending spot for over seven hours, spawning over 55 different trending topics across social media.
As the livestream stretched past five hours, 27 cast chairs were revealed, bringing together some of the biggest names in the Marvel universe, both new and returning.
The internet exploded with memes from brands like XBOX, F1 Racing, Empire State Building, Merriam-Webster, and even the Minions, all reacting to the sheer size of this cast.
While the cast is already huge, there are several actors that we all thought would be announced that weren’t. But, Marvel isn’t done!
Robert Downey Jr. chimed in on social media, posting: “That’s what you call a deep bench of talent…actually it’s more like a row, but an extra long one…that must be it…right?”
Marvel Studios cheekily responded: “There’s always room for more…”
