Marvel Studios just dropped a new promo for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and it puts the spotlight on none other than Galactus. This latest TV spot offers our best look yet at Ralph Ineson as the Devourer of Worlds in action, and the imposing villain looks every bit as terrifying as fans have hoped.
The footage features the Human Torch going full “Flame On” and launching an attack straight at Galactus. It’s here we get a clear shot of his face. Between his towering presence and that deep, commanding voice, this version of Galactus is shaping up to be a cinematic force of nature.
We also catch Mister Fantastic stretching into battle, ready to throw everything he’s got at the cosmic giant. The size difference is laughably huge, but that’s what makes it exciting, Marvel’s First Family is clearly willing to go down swinging to protect their world.
The promo doubles down on the film’s central conflict as Galactus has come to Earth for one reason, baby Franklin, the son of Reed and Sue Storm. His ultimatum is… hand over the child, and he’ll spare the planet. Needless to say, Reed and Sue aren’t about to make that deal.
This latest spot cranks up the stakes and teases an epic showdown with Marvel’s most iconic cosmic villain.
If you’re unfamiliar with Franklin Richards, he’s absurdly powerful. He was Introduced in Fantastic Four Annual #6 in 1968, and is a reality-warping, universe-spawning, omega-level mutant who, at full potential, could rival cosmic beings like Eternity.
Galactus obviously sees Franklin as a potential never-ending food source. Franklin’s ability to create pocket universes and new worlds essentially makes him Galactus’ version of a personal chef. And Galactus is hungry.
Before Galactus was Galactus, he was Galan, a survivor of the universe that existed before the current one. After merging with the Sentience of the Universe, he reemerged post-Big Bang as a being of insatiable hunger, one who requires the energy of entire planets to survive.
In the comics, he’s not evil, he’s elemental and necessary, and when he sends his heralds like Silver Surfer or Shalla-Bal to scout planets, it’s not personal. It’s survival.
