Netflix just teed off the full trailer for Happy Gilmore 2 during its Tudum 2025 event. After nearly three decades, Adam Sandler’is back in the baggy Bruins jersey, swinging for the fences, and if the new trailer is anything to go by, this sequel is going to be a lot of fun!
The story picks up years after Happy’s climactic showdown with Shooter McGavin, and life’s been good. He’s still with Virginia (Julie Bowen), he’s earned five gold jackets, and he’s mentioned in the same breath as “Arnold, Jacko, and Tiger.”
But the fire never really left him. When the game changes and younger talent starts dominating the leaderboard, Happy finds himself called back to the green with a new caddie, played by none other than Bad Bunny, and the same old nemesis: Shooter McGavin, once again played by Christopher McDonald.
This latest trailer shows us why Happy’s returning. It’s not just about pride or legacy, it’s about proving to himself that he still has it. There’s some heart here, and a lot of laughs. And yes, the slapshot swing is still intact.
The film is directed by Game Over, Man! and Workaholics alum Kyle Newacheck, who’s stepping into the director’s chair after Dennis Dugan’s absence. And it’s clear this project means a lot to him. In a preview interview with Collider, Newacheck shared.
“I was constantly reminded what an impact the first Happy Gilmore has had on so many generations. My desire to be a filmmaker can be traced directly back to watching Happy Gilmore as a kid. So it wasn’t surprising that people said yes, but it was amazing how loudly they said it. We had the best golfers in the world put aside their rivalries to join in and have fun on this one. Happy brings people together.”
Sandler himself made it clear that this wasn’t a quick cash-in. This sequel’s been brewing for years, and it shows:
“It’s good. We worked hard on the script. We didn’t want to let anybody down. People have been asking me for a long time. We’re really excited about it. We wrote our asses off. So many of the golfers are being nice and will be a part of it.”
Alongside the returning faces the movie also pays tribute to the late Carl Weathers, who played the iconic Chubbs Peterson.
