Here’s a fun horror short film for you to watch titled Curse of the Velvet Vampire, and it centers on two Chinese horror aficionados, who meet in a cult video store to watch the mysterious vampire film called “The Curse of The Velvet Vampire”.

The film tells the story, “of a metal band called 802 and a lot of beautiful vampire girls. However, the film is not to everyone’s taste, and slowly the reality of the film and the world of the two Chinese begin to merge. Something terrifying has been brought back to life and now, only fear and death await them.”

The film, from writer and director Christoffer Schuricht, is shared in collaboration with the FilmQuest Film Festival, where we are looking to expose some of the radical indie genre films and shorts that filmmakers are creating.

I also included an interview with the director that you can read below!

What was the inspiration for your film? How did you come up with the idea?

Being inspired by 1970s Giallo film & Euro Thrash film of the period infused with stylistic cues from 1980s Horror Films and Korean Contemporary films. This little bastard of a film was born. Its a love letter to genre film and a statement that in cinema “one mans trash is another mans treasure” Its a hazy, gothic, heavy metal slacker flick, that has themes of Anxiety, Addiction, doomed love and dark humour.

Tell us about yourself. What is your background? How long have you been a filmmaker?

My name is Christoffer Schuricht and I am a trained commercial editor and colorist and I have worked with, among others, David Lynch, Millie Bobby Brown ,Charli XCX, etc. as well as some of the biggest commercial film directors in Scandinavia and in the US.

I am represented by the largest agency AOA CPH for cinematographers and editors in Scandinavia. You can watch my film roll here. What I do most is Fashion through my work and I have worked for Vogue, Dior, Pandora and so on, among other things.

I have also received the Danish States Arts Foundation, a three-year grant for two short films I have directed. In addition, I have written and edited a number of short films and a feature film, which have been selected for major international festivals all over the world.

What inspires you to work within genre cinema and tell these kind of stories?

The freedom to tell stories in a setting with no boundaries but your own imagination.

What was your favorite part of the filmmaking process for this project?

Rushing to the finish line to get the film done.

What are you most proud of with this film?

To see and hear that it connected with different audiences all over the world.

What is a favorite story or moment from the making of the film you’d like to share?

Shooting the choreographed dance of the vampires in a very moody castle, it felt like being in a Hammer film, it was quite poetic and macbre at the same time.

What was your most challenging moment or experience you had while making your film?

Shooting the last shots of the day at three clock in the morning, with generates and crew running on empty in the middle of nowhere.

If it did, how did your film change or differ from its original concept during pre-production, production, and/or post-production? How has this changed how you’ll approach future projects as a result?

There was differently thinks that chance during filming , but mostly for the better but a lot of lessons was learned the hard way as well.

Who were some of your collaborators and actors on the film? How did you start working with each other?

I have worked with the Writer and Director Poul Erik Madsen (who wrote the script for the film) for more than twenty years now on diffrent projekts together, we meet in film school,

What is the best advice you’ve ever received as a filmmaker and what would you like to say to new filmmakers?

Never give up no matter what. Don’t try just do it.

What are your plans for your career and what do you hope this film does for it? What kind of stories would you like to tell moving forward?

I hope I get a chance to make the feature that I am working on now.

What is your next project and when can we expect to see it?

A Southern Gothic Ghost Story, inspired by movies like “Night of the Hunter” & Vice Squad”
