George R.R. Martin has watched the first six episodes of HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, and he’s got some high praise for the Game of Thrones prequel.

The author took to his blog to update fans, revealing that the first season wrapped months ago and has been deep in post-production ever since. Martin wrote:

“I’ve seen all six episodes now (the last two in rough cuts, admittedly), and I loved them. Dunk and Egg have always been favorites of mine, and the actors we found to portray them are just incredible.”

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is based on Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas, set about 90 years before Game of Thrones. The series follows Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk), a hedge knight, and his young squire Egg.

Martin also gave a nod to the wider cast, saying: “The rest of the cast are terrific as well. Wait until you guys meet the Laughing Storm. And Tanselle Too-Tall.”

Martin went on to address what kind of Game of Thrones experience fans should expect form the series, saying:

“It’s as faithful an adaptation as a reasonable man could hope for (and you all know how incredibly reasonable I am on that particular subject). Viewers who are looking for action, and more action, and only action… well, this one may not satisfy you.”

He added: “There’s a huge fight scene here, as exciting as anyone could ask for, but there are no dragons this time around, no huge battles, no White Walkers… this is a character piece, and its focus is on duty and honor, on chivalry and all it means.”

The series follows the character Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) and his squire, Egg, played by Dexter Sol Ansell (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes).

The series is set a century before the events of Game of Thrones, when “two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall (Claffey), and his diminutive squire, Egg (Ansell).”

Set in an age “when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”

The series is set to hit HBO in 2025, and Martin hopes audinces will enjoy it, saying: “I hope you will love the show as much as I do.”
