Lady Gaga has spoken out after police in Brazil intercepted an alleged plot to detonate a bomb at her recent concert in Rio.
Brazilian authorities arrested two suspects several hours before Lady Gaga‘s free show at the Copacabana Beach on Saturday (May 3). The two detained were reportedly connected to a group promoting hate speech against the LGBTQ community, and were allegedly planning on setting off homemade devices at the event that drew in over 2 million people. The group’s alleged leader and a teenager have been arrested in suspected connection to the plan.
A spokesperson for Lady Gaga addressed the situation on Sunday (May 4).
“We learned about this alleged threat via media reports this morning. Prior to and during the show, there were no known safety concerns, nor any communication from the police or authorities to Lady Gaga regarding any potential risks. Her team worked closely with law enforcement throughout the planning and execution of the concert and all parties were confident in the safety measures in place,” they told The Hollywood Reporter.
