Mike Flanagan’s upcoming Carrie TV series just took another exciting step forward. According to Variety, Siena Agudong, best known for her roles in Netflix’s No Good Nick and the Resident Evil series, has been cast as Sue Snell in Amazon’s reimagining of Stephen King’s classic horror tale.
Sue Snell plays a pivotal role in King’s original 1974 novel, serving as one of the more complex and conflicted characters in Carrie White’s tragic journey. Initially part of the clique that cruelly humiliates Carrie, Sue becomes wracked with guilt and attempts to make amends by convincing her boyfriend, Tommy Ross, to take Carrie to the prom.
Of course, in true King fashion, good intentions quickly spiral into horror during what will forever be remembered as “The Black Prom.”
Agudong will bring both youthful relatability and genre cred to the role. With the projects she’s appeared in, she seems like she will bring a grounded, empathetic energy to a character walking the line between redemption and complicity.
Just yesterday, Curse of Chucky star Summer H. Howell was reported to be “nearing a deal” to play Carrie White herself, suggesting that Flanagan’s vision is coming together fast ahead of its summer shoot in Vancouver.
The new series is described as a “bold and timely reimagining” of the iconic story, promising to explore the psychological depth of Carrie’s life: her isolation, her abusive religious fanatic mother, and the relentless bullying she endures at school—all culminating in the unleashing of her devastating telekinetic powers.
Knowing Flanagan’s track record (The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, Doctor Sleep), fans can expect a thoughtful, emotionally driven, and likely terrifying exploration of grief, trauma, and vengeance.
Carrie White has haunted readers and viewers for decades, and with a fresh cast and Flanagan’s signature touch, this latest adaptation could be the most chilling and most emotionally resonant version yet.
