Taylor Swift is reportedly in official talks with Marvel Studios for a role in the MCU. While nothing has been confirmed by Marvel or Swift’s camp, this is the most substantial update yet on a rumor that has been floating around for years.
According to industry insider MTTSH, the discussions are underway, though there’s still no word on which character she could be playing. That said, Dazzler continues to be the leading fan-favorite guess.
Swift and Dazzler have been linked ever since 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse, where the pop icon’s likeness was used on a fictional Dazzler album cover. The rumors quieted down after that… until 2023, when Swift was spotted at a Chiefs-Jets game alongside Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy, Ryan Reynolds, and Hugh Jackman.
That one public appearance sent fans into a frenzy, speculating that Swift would make a surprise appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine. But, she didn’t.
Still, it was enough to keep the conversation going. Rumors of a meeting between Swift and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige followed, with possibilities ranging from Dazzler to The Blonde Phantom. Neither character has appeared in the MCU yet, but both could fit into upcoming projects.
More recently, scooper Daniel Richtman reported that Swift is actively looking to dive back into acting and has met with several studios about future projects, including “a limited series for streaming, a big sci-fi film, and a superhero role.”
While Swift’s past film credits, such asThe Giver, Cats, Amsterdam, weren’t exactly home run hits, it only takes one strong role to shift perception, and she seems to be hunting for it.
She’s even got fans in high places. Acting legend Sir Michael Caine had this to say about her in his memoir, Don’t Look Back, You’ll Trip Over:
“I think Taylor Swift is incredible, a giant star. You know, she was a country singer to start with? And now she fills stadiums all over the world, with audiences of 100,000, and politicians are desperate for her to support them. That’s extraordinary.
“You can just tell how much hard work lies behind what she’s achieved, too. It’s no accident. She has really earned her success, and it hasn’t come overnight. She’s down-to-earth, which is almost always part of it. Not spoiled by all the accolades and money. That’s impressive.”
Whether she ends up wearing a sparkly jumpsuit as Dazzler or steps into an entirely new role, one thing’s for sure, Swift in the MCU would be a major event.
