There’s no doubt that next chapter in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man saga is going to tell a big and wild story. Spider-Man 4 is now rumored to be a “direct sequel” to Avengers: Doomsday, bridging the gap between that film and Avengers: Secret Wars.
This new development was reported by industry insider Daniel Richtman, suggests that Spidey will play a critical role in the aftermath of Doomsday.
Holland’s Spider-Man is expected to big role to play in Doomsday, so it makes sense that his solo film would continue the threads of that story.
While concept art for Doomsday didn’t include Spidey, it did showcase Battleworld, which is a medieval-like realm ruled by Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, where various Avengers have no memory of their past lives.
This brings us to one of the biggest fan theories floating around, which is that Peter Parker could be the only hero untouched by Doom’s control due to the spell Doctor Strange cast in No Way Home.
If true, this could position him as an “Anchor Being,” which is a concept first introduced in Deadpool & Wolverine, who is tasked with saving the Avengers and potentially the entire Multiverse.
Rumors also suggest Spider-Man 4 could see Holland’s Peter team up with past Spider-Man incarnations Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield), alongside other Multiversal allies like Nicolas Cage’s Ghost Rider and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. Of course, none of this is confirmed, but it fun to speculate and talk about what we could see.
As for Spider-Man 4, the film was recently bumped back one week from July 24, 2026, to July 31, 2026. Given the seismic shifts happening across the MCU, this next installment of Spider-Man could be more important to the MCU than anyone originally thought.
