In an era where Hollywood stars use social media as a key promotional tool, Scarlett Johansson has not jumped on that bandwagon. Despite Universal’s request for her to join Instagram ahead of Jurassic World Rebirth, the actress has no intention of joining.
Speaking with InStyle, Johansson revealed the studio had reached out with a specific ask: “I got an email from Universal [Pictures], and they’re like, ‘Hey, would you consider joining Instagram in tandem with the release of Jurassic World: Rebirth?’
“I get a lot of pressure to join social media. [It does make me think], is there a way where I could do this and stay true to who I am? It didn’t feel like I could.”
For Johansson, she is looking to keep her work and public persona separate from the online world. She sees no reason to change that now, especially for a massive franchise that doesn’t exactly need help selling tickets.
She added: “So if I was a person who really enjoyed social media, then I could totally get on the bandwagon. But I’m not. And I think the film will do fine.”

Every Jurassic World film has been a box office juggernaut, with each of the last three installments crossing $1 billion worldwide. Even the lowest-grossing film in the entire franchise, Jurassic Park III, still pulled in nearly $400 million.
Jurassic World Rebirth is shaping up to be another major hit, with Gareth Edwards (Rogue One, Godzilla) directing, David Koepp (Jurassic Park) writing the script, and a cast that includes Johansson and Mahershala Ali.
Johansson’s decision not to engage online it’s about authenticity. She’s simply not interested in the social media game, and if Jurassic World Rebirth is anything like its predecessors, she won’t have to be.
The film is set five years after the events of Dominion, “in which dinosaurs mingled with humans all over the globe, these creatures are now dying out.
“The present-day planet proved to be inhospitable to the prehistoric ilk, except for a small region in the tropics around the equator, where many of them now congregate.
“The three most colossal dinosaurs of land, sea, and air within this biosphere hold genetic material precious to a pharmaceutical company that hopes to use the dino DNA to create a life-saving drug for humanity.”
The film roars into theaters on July 2, 2025.
